How it works
Eyebrow transplantation extracts single hairs from the back of the scalp and implants them at precise angles (very shallow) to mimic natural eyebrow growth direction. Typically 200-400 grafts per eyebrow. Highly specialized — only experienced clinics should attempt.
Step-by-step: how the procedure works
Eyebrow transplant places individual scalp follicles into the eyebrow area to restore shape and density. One of the most technically demanding hair transplant procedures — every single graft is visible and angle errors cannot be hidden.
Consultation & shape design
60–90 minThe most important step. Surgeon draws the new eyebrow shape and validates it with you in multiple lighting conditions and facial expressions. Symmetry and brow arch are mapped pixel-perfect.
Donor planning
15 minDonor is fine, single-hair scalp follicles — typically from the back of the head. Eyebrow transplants need 150–400 grafts (each eyebrow).
Donor shave
10 minA very small donor strip is shaved (can be hidden under existing hair).
Local anesthesia
10 minDonor and eyebrow zones numbed. Eyebrow nerve blocks are precise — the area is highly sensitive.
Single-hair graft selection
1–2 hoursSurgeon hand-picks only single-hair follicular units. Multi-hair grafts would look unnatural in eyebrows. The thinnest, finest hairs are prioritized to match brow texture.
Site creation
1–2 hoursSites are opened at an extremely flat angle (parallel to the skin) and in a specific direction that mimics natural eyebrow growth — different for the head, body, and tail of the brow.
Implantation
1–2 hoursEach graft is placed by hand or with a DHI pen, following the pre-drawn shape. Density and angle are controlled per-hair.
Recovery & shaping
10 days / 9–12 monthsCrusts shed by day 7–10. Transplanted hairs fall out at week 3 (shock loss is universal). Final brow grows in by month 9. Transplanted brows grow like scalp hair — they need monthly trimming to stay in shape.
General overview only. Individual clinics may vary protocols slightly.

Most patients return to non-strenuous work within 5–7 days. Visible scabs typically heal in 7–14 days. Full results — visible new hair density — show at 9–12 months post-procedure. Strenuous exercise and direct sun exposure are usually restricted for 3–4 weeks.
The procedure itself is done under local anaesthesia, so you don't feel pain during it. Most patients describe a mild pressure sensation, similar to a dental procedure. Mild discomfort and tenderness in the donor area are normal for 2–5 days post-procedure and are managed with paracetamol-level pain relief.
Modern techniques (FUE, DHI, Sapphire FUE) place individual follicles at angles matching surrounding hair, so a well-performed procedure is undetectable to non-specialists once fully grown out (12+ months). The natural-look outcome depends 90% on surgeon skill — not the technique label. This is why surgeon credentials (ISHRS, ABHRS) matter more than which technique is marketed.
A typical receding hairline restoration needs 1,500–2,500 grafts. Full crown coverage: 3,000–4,500. Extensive baldness restoration: 4,500–7,000 (sometimes split over two sessions). The exact number depends on your hair density, donor area capacity, and the area being treated — only an in-person or video consultation gives a reliable estimate.
Hair dyeing should wait 4–6 weeks post-procedure. Normal washing starts at day 10–14 with the clinic's prescribed shampoo. Styling products (gel, wax, hairspray) should be avoided for the first month. After 3 months, normal styling is usually safe.
