About this condition
Scarring alopecia (cicatricial alopecia) occurs when hair follicles are destroyed and replaced by scar tissue. Causes include lichen planopilaris, frontal fibrosing alopecia, and trauma. Once active inflammation is controlled, hair transplantation into scarred areas requires highly experienced surgeons.
